T's Family's Smindy's Japanese Flank Steak

Ingredients
2 lbs flank steak, tenderized twice by butcher
1/3 C sugar
1/3 C shoyu
2 stalks green onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 1/2 Tbsp mirin
1/2 tsp fresh grated ginger
2 Tbsp oil (mix sesame and vegetable oil or pure sesame)

Directions
Mix hours ahead of time. Place all ingredients in a bowl and mix thoroughly. Continue stirring until sugar is completely dissolved. Marinate steak for 1 hour. Place on medium-hot coals only for a few minutes on each side. Put leftover sauce in a sauce pot and cook on slow boil to thicken. Slice meat against grain. Pour sauce over steak. Serve with rice.
